Research Interests

Dr. Han’s research focuses on the integration of automated data acquisition, systemic analysis, and information visualization in support of decision-making during a construction project. In particular, his research interests lie in the in-depth understanding of human behavior and social interaction in a built environment as well as in an construction operation from a systems point of view. The research specifically includes the following areas:

  • Human motion sensing and ergonomic analysis for health and safety
  • 3D modeling of a human and a built environment for workplace design
  • System dynamics and reliability for modeling and analysis of complex systems
  • BIM-oriented visualization of construction resources for operation analysis

Short Biography

Dr. Han is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Hanyang University. He earned MS and PhD degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009 and 2013, and a MS degree in Computer Science from Columbia University in 2012. He joined the department in September 2016, after serving as a faculty member in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Alberta, Canada.
He has research interests in the areas of data sensing and analytics, simulation modeling, and system dynamics and reliability for construction health and safety, and operation analysis. His ongoing research includes simulation modeling of manual operations for ergonomic analysis, motion tracking and detection for automated time studies, and data mining for proactive hazard prevention and control.
He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and American Society for Engineering Education. He has served as an assistant specialty editor of the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management and as a reviewer for several journals (e.g., ASCE Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering).
