  • Digital Construction
  • Environment and Energy

With a long history and strong tradition, the department has educated key professionals who have led Korea’s construction industry.
Today, it continues to drive technological innovation aligned with the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The department operates three integrated research and education programs
Built Environment, Digital Construction, and Environment and Energy—strengthening both academic research and practical competencies.

Built Environment
This program integrates academic foundations and practical skills required for the design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure that supports human life. Key subfields include Structural Engineering, which analyzes the mechanical behavior of structures, and Geotechnical Engineering, which focuses on ground and foundation systems.
Digital Construction
Alongside traditional management methods addressing cost, productivity, quality, and safety in construction projects, this program explores digital innovation by integrating cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), sensing, robotics, virtual and augmented reality, simulation, and Building Information Modeling (BIM).
Environment and Energy
To address uncertainties in future society, including global warming and climate change, this program focuses on understanding the environmental impacts of infrastructure while studying theoretical and practical approaches for the sustainable use of Earth’s resources such as water, air, and energy.

To support these integrated research and education programs, the department’s dedicated building, Jaesung Civil Engineering Hall, is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, supercomputing facilities, department-exclusive lecture rooms, and research spaces, providing a world-class educational and research environment. Through this infrastructure, students grow into globally competitive professionals with both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, and graduates pursue successful careers across the construction industry, public institutions, and academia in Korea and abroad.

Moving forward, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Hanyang University will continue to prepare for the uncertainties of the future and contribute to the advancement of the global construction industry through innovative and forward-looking education and research.
