About the Prof.
Professor Kim leads Water Energy Link Laboratory (WELL) and works across a wide range of research topics in the field of carbon-neutral water and wastewater engineering. The WELL is a leading research group in the field of water and wastewater engineering. WELL develops advanced biological treatment processes for pollutant removal from wastewater and for resource recovery from organic residues such as biogas production, also conducting microbial community analysis and identification within these engineered systems. WELL actively studies in the development of carbon-neutral water treatment processes for greenhouse gas mitigation, innovative biological technologies for the reduction of emerging contaminants such as micropollutants and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), and comprehensive monitoring of contaminant behavior in aquatic environments. More recently, research has expanded to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) for the monitoring, optimization, and resilience enhancement of social infrastructure systems, particularly in response to climate change and disasters. In addition, WELL pursues high-value resource valorization through the production of bioplastics and other circular materials from organic waste, contributing to the realization of sustainable and circular water management systems.
